PROJECT OVERVIEW

This project centered on revitalizing the Unigrid design system for a designated national park, aligning with the National Park Service's well-established visual identity. The objective was to modernize the layout while maintaining its clarity and practical functionality. In addition to the redesigned Unigrid, I developed supplementary assets for a comprehensive park pack, thoughtfully designed to enrich the visitor experience through cohesive materials.

DEVELOPMENT

In the initial design process, I aimed to create an identity that maintained the dense, information-rich nature of the original Unigrid while introducing clearer sectioning to improve visual hierarchy and enhance readability. For my chosen park, Crater Lake, I selected a navy and cream color palette to capture the lake's deep, rich hues while evoking the park's historic charm. In addition to the Unigrid, I extended the design identity to interactive elements, including a card game and a wildflower identification guide, to enhance the engagement and educational value of the pack for park visitors.

CHALLENGES AND OUTCOME

Balancing the dense information structure of the original Unigrid with improved readability was a key challenge, requiring thoughtful hierarchy and layout adjustments. Designing a custom physical folder to house the various assets also challenged my craftsmanship, requiring  attention to detail to ensure functionality. The final outcome modernized the Unigrid, enhancing clarity while preserving its informational depth, while the interactive elements sought to provide visitors with engaging, educational experiences.
